Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in School District No. 60 is grounded in the belief that academic learning and social-emotional competence are interconnected. SEL is a fundamental part of student and staff development in the areas of self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision making. SEL is a continuum of supports and practices woven into curriculum, classrooms, and whole-school culture. SEL is aligned with the BC Curriculum’s Core Competencies, which include personal and social awareness and responsibility, making it a natural fit within classroom instruction and school cultures. We value strong partnerships with families and the broader community to nurture and sustain lifelong social-emotional learning.
This CASEL video provides a basic overview of the social-emotional learning (SEL) framework and why these skills and supportive settings matter for students and adults alike.
